Charity cruise for modified/performance cars

Postby SkylineObsession » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:57 pm

Just an idea i randomly came up with at work last week. Who here would be interested in being in a meet/convoy of modified/performance cars all in the aid of charity, this time being the Otago Community Hospice (since Mum was there for the last few weeks of her life).

Was thinking of having each driver pay a minimum of $5 (anything more is accepted of course) to participate in the parkup and cruise, and maybe any passengers can donate either a gold coin minimum, or $5 again.

Another idea is that if members of the public want to have a ride in any of the cars during the cruise (proviso the car owner is happy) then they can pay a few $$ for the charity too. This may open the event up to more of the general public.

Then pretty much do the same cruise loop as the Special Rigs for Special Kids (out to Mosgiel via motorway, then back over Three Mile Hill to the Edgar stadium).

Its just an idea at this stage, but i honestly think that with enough support and publicity it could turn out quite well. Mainly wanted to do this to show that modified car owners are usually 'normal' people and thats where the charity donation comes in (rather than just being a big cruise of modded cars).

Will be open to any modified/performance cars (imports, Ferraris, HSV's and FPV's, American muscle cars, Mercs etc etc) too, so that more cars can come along.

Opinions? I'm very seriously thinking of going ahead with it anyway, even if we only get a handful of cars. I mean, why not?

That sounds like an awesome idea, :D
Ive done the special rigs the last 2 years, [and will be next year] It doesnt just help those that need it,
Its good publicity that helps the bad rep that some drivers, car enthusiasts get!

This is just the ticket Kristie, there are some very large car clubs in Dunedin so the more that hear about it the better, doesn't matter if its Ford, Holden, Toyota or even the Lada ( not sure if there is one), but you get my point. I am very keen to help Andrew on this project, I have just buried a very close friend due to cancer. Andrew, be good to catch up in the near future and start brainstorming some ideas ie the whats, hows and who and where fors. I will keep in touch. :D :applause:

Thinking of Sunday, November 21st for the cruise date. May create a new topic soon, before or after i talk to a Taieri Herald reporter about getting an article done. ODT will be after that i hope.

Well the DCC are gonna consider my request to use the Tahuna Park Showgrounds for the meet up on the day and they'll get back to me with the answer soon. Unfortunately there will be a cost, so somehow have to find the money.

And the Otago Community Hospice are e-mailing me their new logo to use on the flyer that i havent yet made, and thats without asking them! I rang them up today to ask if they saw the article in the Taieri Herald, which they had, then they asked for my e-mail so they can send the new logo to me. :D And they will definately be keen to send someone down to make a speach on the day if we end up doing speaches. :)

Also gonna try get hold of Greg Inch who organises the Special Rigs For Special Kids and maybe have a chat with him about how big events like this work.

At the moment we really need to sort out a cheap way to print off a few hundred flyers in time for the Autospectacular just over a month away, so maybe i'll ask a printing company for cheaper prices if we put their logo on the flyer in some sort of sponsorship deal.

And am yet to ring the ODT but thats next on the list. S

Still need help spreading the word!

Flicking through the current issue of N.Z Performance Car today and NZHondas meet at Greenlane (where we meet) was covered in it.
At the bottom of the page there was an article stating if any clubs have events or such to e-mail the team at Performance Car and they might be able to cover it...
I am thinking of maybe e-mailing them and seeing if they can cover one of ours?
Probably not this one since there is a cruise but maybe next months at Greenlane too since they know where it is?
It would be good publicity/advertising for the club and we could get a very good turnout too hopefully.

maybe could put a word in about the cruise
